Jerry Seinfeld Tour 2021

Easily one of the most recognizable faces on television, Jerry Seinfeld, to date, remains one of the most successful comedians. A few of his influences were comedians Abbott and Costello, Jerry Lewis, Robert Klein and Jay Leno, actor Ricardo Montalban and storyteller and humorist Jean Shepherd. Jerry Seinfeld debuted his stand-up comedy show at the New York City comedy club Catch a Rising Star in 1976. Seinfeld cites garnering two nights a week emceeing at the Comic Strip in New York as his big breakthrough. True national recognition, however, came in 1981 when he appeared on The Tonight Show. Jerry Seinfeld would later become best known for his television sitcom, Seinfeld, which aired on NBC from 1989 to 1998. Seinfeld returned to the stand-up-comedy touring circuit in the late 1990s. As always, he would deliver a laid-back brand of observational comedy, free of edginess and cursing. Jerry has been nominated for two Grammys and numerous Emmys, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards.

Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 29, 1954. He was interested in comedy and television from an early age and taught himself the art of delivery. He received formal theatrical training at Queens College, City University of New York, in 1976. Seinfeld stemmed from NBC’s interest in Jerry Seinfeld’s starring role in a television special of his own creation, Jerry’s Stand-Up Confidential in 1987. Seinfeld paired with Larry David, a comedian and writer from New York, to create the show. Although Jerry Seinfeld would receive widespread critical acclaim and an enormous fan base for the show, he had already established himself as one of the most prominent American stand-up acts. In 2010, Seinfeld dabbled in reality TV with The Marriage Ref, which was quickly canceled. Jerry Seinfeld established firmer footing in 2012 with an interview show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, where he has featured such big names as Amy Schumer and Chris Rock.

Besides his numerous television nominations and awards, including a Prime Time Emmy in 1993 and a Golden Globe in 1994 for the sitcom Seinfeld, Jerry has a couple of albums that received high acclaim. I’m Telling You For the Last Time and Jerry Before Seinfeld were nominated for Grammy Awards in 1999 and 2018 respectively. The former was up for the Best Spoken Comedy Album and the latter for Best Comedy Album. Seinfeld won lifetime achievement recognition, the AFI Star Award, in 1999 at the US Comedy Arts Festival.
